Beating the Heat

The first full day of school brought with it temperatures that topped 90 degrees outside. Inside, teachers and students worked through the heat learning classroom rules and expectations. For the first time this school year, students were introduced to the physical education teachers, Diana Davis and Loretta Bachman, and music teacher, Jane Richter. In between classroom activities and resource classes, students and teachers could be found lined up at the water fountains in the hallways.
In an effort to keep the first day of school memorable, for something other than the heat, classes headed outside to the park. There, first graders enjoyed popsicles under the shade of the park shelter. Mr. Figura’s fifth grade class shared the shelter with first graders as his class took some time to enjoy a book. Kindergartners were introduced to their first PE activity in the shade of the trees.
It was a warm day. But as with all things, the West staff and students made the best of a heated situation. In this case, they found a breeze, a little shade and a nice cool treat to make everything a little better.
