Red Ribbon Week: Look
at Me, I'm Drug-Free!
Olympia West's annual Red Ribbon Week will kick off on Sunday,
October 21, with Red Ribbon Week Prayer Day. Each day of the week
will offer special activities for the students and communities to
emphasize drug awareness and the importance of saying no to drugs.
The week will end with a Rip Roarin' Regional Red Ribbon Rally at
the Grade School Park in Minier on Friday, October 26, from 6:00 -
9:00 pm. There will be 2 special efforts going on now through the
end of Red Ribbon Week to help emphasize drug awareness. First,
look for collection kettles throughout the communities of
Armington, Hopedale, and Minier where you can deposit your used
eyeglasses. After the rally, these will be given to the Hopedale
Lions Club for distribution through their vision program. Second,
the school will be collecting cans of food with red labels. The
goal is to collect 1,438 cans of food to illustrate the number of
people who die every 24 hours in the US from drug related causes.
After the rally, the cans will be distributed among the churches
for their food pantries.
