By Morgan Ott

November 02, 2007

On Tuesday October 23rd, Mr. Nordstrom, Mrs. Harrison, Matt Barling, Andy Lindgren, Morgan Ott, Kaylene Frietag, Michael Wheet, Ethan Humberd, Alison Correll, Samantha Yoder, Nick Brand, Doug Springer, Guy Hainline, and Jacob Fontaine left for Indianapolis to attend the 80th National FFA Convention!

While in Indianapolis, they had many activities choices. On Wednesday, they walked around the Career Show, and later in the afternoon, they attended their 1st General Session. At this session, they had the chance to meet the national officer team and hear keynote speaker, Rick Rigsby! Rigsby said, “Don’t just make an impression, make an impact!”

At the convention, the members were able to tour the Dow Agro science plant. Mr. Nordstrom said, “The Dow Agro sciences plant was a great learning experience for everyone.  It was very informational to learn about the endless opportunities for young men and women wanting to enter in the field of agriculture as a career.  Hopefully some students will continue to learn more in an ag career because of the tour.”

The members were also given a chance to make their rounds at the career show and visit many agricultural colleges and business booths. This gave members an opportunity to get a better knowledge of where and what type of agriculture career they might be interested in pursuing.

The members from the Olympia chapter were excited to hear one of their own former Illinois State FFA officer and National FFA Secretary Kacy Baugher give her retiring address speech.

After attending numerous sessions and visiting many booths, the members were able to relax and have some fun while in Indianapolis and attended the Montgomery Gentry Concert, as well as the Beach Boys concert.  While in Indianapolis, the chapter went to Grindstone Charley’s to eat dinner as a chapter! Mr.Nordstrom stated, “Convention was a great learning experience.  It recharges your battery so you are ready for a fun and exciting year in FFA.”

Over all, the Olympia FFA members had another rewarding experience as they meet other members from across the country and learn more amazing opportunities agriculture and the FFA offers.
