On Tuesday, November 13, 2007, the grandparents of Olympia High School had a day to remember. Not only did they spend time in the classroom with their grandchildren, but they also had a small presentation and certificates were handed out.
The day started off well with a small get- together in the cafeteria, where many grandparents had cinnamon rolls and milk. After, the students and their grandparents went off to their first block classes. The grandparents even followed their grandchildren up to the board to help with Algebra and Calculus problems.
They also went to second block together. For lunch, Olympia High School served up some delicious turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls, and pumpkin pie with whipped cream.
Zach Williams’ grandfather for the day, Brad Williams said that the best parts of Grandparents’ Day were, “We got free lunch, good parking, and a certificate.”
Mr. Thurman finished off the day, after a slide show of all the pictures taken throughout the morning, with a short speech giving thanks to everyone who helped with and participated in Grandparent’s Day. Certificates and Olympia Spartan Water Bottles were given out. The Grandparents were invited to stay for the Veterans Day Assembly that started at 1:15 p.m.
I would also like to give thanks to everyone who came out to Olympia High School for Grandparents Day and hopefully next year will be even better. Dean McCartney said, “Thank you for making this day fun and enjoyable. I am thankful for grandparents. They are an important part of the past, present, and the future of our students.”
So mark those calendars for the week around Veterans Day for the Grandparents Day at Oly.
