Students Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day at Olympia West

Teachers and students at West celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day in a variety of ways including reading stories and watching videos that told the story of the late Martin Luther King Jr. Mrs. Johanson’s fifth grade class studied the civil rights movement as part of their language arts and social studies curriculum. The culminating activity was a Readers' Theater presentation to the second and third grade classes titled On the Bus. The story included both Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks as characters.
Mrs. Johanson’s class is just one of several classes that began using Readers' Theater this year as a reading intervention to increase reading fluency.
