Prisms and Pyramids

Faces, Edges, and Vertices

by Tyler DeVault

January 29, 2008

Faces, edges, vertices!  Fifth Grade had fun making mobiles.  We had parents come and help us make them.  We made the mobiles to learn about faces, edges, vertices, and 3-D shapes.  We filled out information for each of the shapes we created. We made these so we could have a hands-on learning experience.

Vertices are when two edges come to a point.  Edges are the line segments that make up the shapes, and faces are made of the flat surfaces between the edges.  There are many types of prisms.  Some of them are a rectangular prism, a triangular prism and a hexagonal prism.  A pyramid has a point joining the edges and faces together.  Pyramids and prisms can be identified by the shape of their faces.  To see more of our work go to our class web page or click here: Olympia North Fifth Grade.
