Do You Like to Skate?
Olympia North Does

For the last two weeks, students in kindergarten through fifth grade roller skated at Olympia North. Each class got to skate five times in two weeks. Mrs. Peterson and Mr. Evans swapped days. Classes got to skate every other day.
To start out the week, everyone had to learn how to skate. In the middle of the gym, a medium sized mat was set up. A skater would get their skates and bring them to the mat. Students skated in a circle around the mat.
Fun music provided a chance to get up and dance. One skater said, "Dancing while skating is the best part!” Playing Limbo was lots of fun, too. You got to duck and skate. Most classes toppled over when the noodle got too low. Fifth grade had three noodles set up to Limbo under.
Skating is lots of fun for everyone and helps with balance, too. The skating activity addressed state goal number 19: Acquire movement skills and understand concepts needed to engage in health-enhancing physical activity.
