McLean County Community Compact Speakers

On Thursday, April 17, OMS hosted visitors from various telecommunications/utility companies as a part of the 6th Grade Business Education Partnership. This partnership is through Olympia Middle School and the McLean County Community COMPACT. On this first visit of three, guest
speakers from Corn Belt Energy Cooperative, IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) and Nicor addressed 6th grade students during their Science/Math blocks. Students were very interested in the speakers' remarks, and asked many valuable questions regarding their topics. The speakers will return on May 15 for their second address to the 6th Grade classrooms, and the unit will culminate with a final visit on May 20 which will include line repair trucks and allow students a "hands on" question and answer opportunity.
Special thanks to the valuable support of the McLean County Community COMPACT, as well as to each speaker and the business they represent for allowing them the opportunity to visit Olympia Middle School. We look forward to their return, and for a continued relationship with the COMPACT!
