Into The Blue A Swimming Success!

by Christen Roberts, Torch reporter

May 02, 2008

It’s safe to say no one drowned at Olympia High School’s ‘Into the Blue’ prom; the event was a huge success.

Saturday, April 26 marked the date of prom. For many seniors, the thought of their last prom ever was rolling through their minds while other students had sporting events to focus upon. But by 7:30, the starting time of the event, people began their fun night.

The Lafayette Club was decorated with a glittery ship wreck replica with sea horses to boot. Everyone who attended really enjoyed the music selection. “I thought they played really good music at prom, something we could all dance to,” said senior Darci Williams. “Everything except the stupid Hokey Pokey.  What are we five years old?” The chocolate fountain was a huge hit at well.

“I think it went well - though my expectations are about things are a little different than students,” said Junior class sponsor Mrs. Davis, “I am happy that every one made it there safely and home safely.  No major problems with the event like facility issues or dj issues.  There was a nice dessert provided and the decorations were wonderful, and the students all handled themselves like young adults.  It is hard to please everyone, so the committee does the best they can with the money and time they have available.”

On prom court this year were Heidi Fontaine, Courtney Miller, Brittney Hendricks, Katie Peek, Mitch Birky, Eric Biehl, Colt Stroud, and Andy Lindgren. Crowned King of Prom was Zach Williams and Queen was Kaylene Freitag. Congratulations to both seniors.
