Mrs. Hieser’s and Mrs. Swatzendruber’s third graders at Olympia West started hearing peeps last Monday morning as they walked in to their classrooms to start another week of school. They are now the proud parents of 20 baby chicks.
The project started on April 15th with 36 eggs in incubators. Daily the students logged the different stages of the eggs until the grand arrivals last week. The students watched the chicks hatch with the use of a camera that displayed the action on a television screen. This allowed all third grade students a chance to observe this special event.
Once the chicks were strong enough to receive visitors from other classes, the chicks were placed in the famous yellow pool outside the third grade classes. The third grade students showed their protective parenting skills for these cute little peeps as the other classes made their way to visit these special guests at Oly West.
On Friday, the chicks were off to start their lives on the farms of some of our third grade students.
