On May 8, 2008 the Olympia FFA chapter held their annual Ag Day. About 400 kids came out to the high school to learn more about agriculture. The FFA had a livestock display, dairy booth, soil booth and farm equipment safety booth. Pre-K, Kindergarten, Second, and Fourth graders learned the values and safety about agriculture and farm life. They watched what could happen if they got caught in a PTO shaft, and then went from booth to booth learning about soil and dairy. The kids also enjoyed ice cream and soil cups. They were able to see farm animals such as pigs, goats, turkeys, horses, peacocks, chickens, and cattle. The students were even able to compete to name the young calf on display. AJ Donovan was the winner from Olympia North with the calf name of "Dangerous Jack". Hopefully Ag Day will teach students about Agriculture and Farm Safety and who knows maybe even save a life.
