Olympia West hosted a dental clinic on Friday, May 16, 2008.
Students' oral health was checked and treatment needs were noted. A
dental hygienist cleaned the students' teeth. Each student was
given a new toothbrush to take home.
Oral hygiene is part of a healthy lifestyle. Adults and
students need to brush and floss daily, especially after eating.
Dental check ups and cleanings should be completed twice each
year or about every 6 months. Eating healthy food choices and
limiting sugary snacks are important to dental health.
The state of Illinois does require students in kindergarten,
2nd, and 6th grades to have dental exams by May 15 of the school
year, unless a waiver has been filed with the school district.
Dental clinics were held in each of the elementary
buildings this year to assist parents with meeting this
requirement.
