OHS Plant Sale Coming
Spring is almost here and the Olympia High School Greenhouse is busy with excitement. Students have been working hard planting seeds, transplanting plugs, and learning how to make stem propagations. The greenhouse plant sale will be on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 3-6 pm and Saturday, May 2 at 8-11 am. Olympia district employees may purchase plants on Wednesday, April 29th; the greenhouse will be open 2-5 pm.
Several fourth grade classes from the district have also planted
flowers. Some students planted perennials (salvia and daisies) in
November and December while other fourth graders planted annuals
(marigolds) in January. Students are able to watch their plants
grow while accessing the Olympia Greenhouse website at:
http://www.staff.olympia.org/external/classes/embrymohr/Greenhouse/Olympia%20Greenhouse.htm
Plants for sale include: marigold, petunia, scabiosa, coleus,
tomato, grasses, salvia, verbena, calibracoa, spike, geraniums,
coreopsis, dianthus, nicotiana, pansy, dusty miller, alyssum, vinca
vine, argyranthemum, bacopa, lobelia, scaevola, and many more.
Numerous baskets and pots will also be available.
Check out the Olympia Greenhouse website to learn more about the
various plants grown and their requirements.
Plants are grown by students enrolled in the environmental science
class. All proceeds are used to purchase supplies and equipment for
next year’s sale and other educational projects. The greenhouse is
