OMS Olympics
Shouts and cheers could be heard from the OMS sixth grade hallway as students from Miss Thompson’s and Mrs. Stine’s team as well as Mr. Dillon’s and Mrs. Griffin’s team held their own Olympic games on January 21st. In their Social Studies classes, the students have been studying Ancient Greece which was where the Olympics originated. The participants were split into city-state teams and competed in events like discus, shot-put, javelin throw, marble grab, and sponge squeeze. Beforehand, each team designed and created flags and headbands which represented characteristics that the students learned about city-states. “City-states” cheered on teammates while they competed in the featured events. Students enjoyed the hands-on activities and were motivated by a little bit of healthy competition.
