Social Studies Classes Preparing for Tests, Guest Speakers and Field Trips
Spring has arrived, and has brought with it a myriad of events for the Social Studies department.
On April 14, Mrs. Castleman’s Contemporary History class will be taking a field trip to the McLean County Museum of History. This will coincide with their unit on the Vietnam War, as they will tour the museum’s Vietnam exhibit. “The museum has a wonderful exhibit that will give the students a hands on view of what life was really during the war,” said Mrs. Castleman.
Next door in Mr. Abrams room, his A.P.U.S. History class is preparing for the A.P. test in May. The test is the culmination of a year long journey through the entire history of the United States. It will require the students to remember information ranging from Columbus’ discovery to the terrorist attacks on September 11. “The students really need to dedicate themselves, and begin to review the information on their own. Their individual success is based entirely on their preparation,” said Mr. Abrams.
Mr. Walsh’s World History class will have the pleasure of welcoming a guest speaker from Uganda on Wednesday, March 17. He is a friend of Mr. Walsh, and is currently a student at Illinois State University. Having lived in Uganda, he will share his life experiences and talk about his education, and the differences between the United States and his home country.
Stay tuned to the Social Studies department, because you never know when the next exciting event will occur.
