Olympia’s Track Team off to Good Start
The Spartans had their first meet of the year on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Illinois State University. They were very happy with their performance. Sprinter Brett Watts qualified for Indoor State in the 55m dash and Kameron Carpenter qualified in the 55m high hurdles as well as in the pole vault.
When asked about his performance in the 55m dash, Watts said, “I was really happy with it. I feel really fast this year and think that I will be even faster once I improve on my start.”
The 4x400 relay which consisted of Brady Schroeder, Brett Watts, Austin Huffington, and Kameron Carpenter also ran a good race.
Qualifying for state is not the only thing that matters. “It was just a really fun experience. I excited for the next meet,” said first year track runner, Matt Hazzard. Hazzard, who was the surprise of the day when he far surpassed the expectations for him.
All of the Spartans had fun and tried hard and that is what it is all about.
