German Students celebrate “Karneval”
Mrs. Meissner’s German students celebrate a special German event called Karneval. It is a time before Lent when traditional rules in society get turned upside down. It is similar to Mardi Gras in New Orleans and Carnival in Rio.
Students had to give speeches in German about promises they had for the class because that is what they had to actually do in German speaking countries on Karneval. They also had to give speeches to the people in that country and say what they promised for them.
They elected a Prince and a Princess. The Prince elected was junior Bodhi Keller and the Princess elected was junior Lindsay Morr. They elected a Prince and Princess because that is also what they did in German speaking countries. They voted on everyone who gave a speech and elected a guy and a girl to be the Prince and Princess.
“It was fun not having to talk in German and just relaxing for the day,” said junior elected Princess Lindsay Morr.
“Culture is an important part of the foreign language classroom because you can’t separate culture from language,” said German teacher Mrs. Meissner.
