Start Seeing Farmers
Harvest Time is Upon Us - Fall 2011
It's that time of year again! Fall is here and it is a time when farmers will need to drive farm equipment down the road from field to field. Living in a rural school district, we want to remind our students and their families of the importance of slowing down and knowing when it is safe to pass especially near an approaching hill.
Obviously, tractors and farm machinery must go at a much slower speed (most under 25 mph) than most who are driving cars and trucks. Farmers will need to be on the rural roads for the purpose of moving equipment and taking grains to the elevator. Please drive with caution and respect to the farmers as they do their job. Remember to watch for flashing hazard lights and reflective orange triangles that are Slow Moving Vehicle (SMV) signs. Farm equipment needs a little more space on the roadways so please slow down, allow a little extra room and be very cautious. Let's have a very safe and enjoyable fall as the area farmers begin the harvest season.
Olympia CUSD 16 would like to thank the FFA students for helping place "Start Seeing Farmers" signs along the roads.
- Approach farm machinery on the road with caution
- Slow down your speed
- Allow plenty of room around the machinery
- Determine if it is safe to pass the machinery
- Anticipate the machinery needing to make a turn in front of you or as you pass
- Watch for flashing hazard lights and reflective orange triangles
- Fall Harvest also means dangerous chemicals are being hauled on the roads
