Principal's Welcome
2011-2012 School Year
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Olympia West Elementary School. The mission of the school and the Olympia School District is:
“The Olympia Community inspires, educates, and challenges each student to achieve personal success .”
Olympia West is one of three elementary schools in Olympia CUSD #16, a district that is home to eight communities in five counties encompassing 377 square miles. The outstanding professional staff at Olympia West is privileged to serve approximately 300 students from the communities of Armington, Hopedale, and Minier. With two classes per grade and approximately 22 students per class, students are educated at West from early childhood through fifth grade. Students then move to the 6-12 Olympia Middle/High School complex to complete their grade-school education.
In addition to the excellent staff at Olympia West, we are fortunate to have wonderful parental support. Parents can be seen in the building throughout the year volunteering and even substituting in various positions. One of the greatest ways parents contribute to the school is through PTO. PTO offers opportunities for all parents to become involved in their child’s education though various committees and projects including Market Day, Field Day, Fall Fundraiser, Teacher Appreciation, and Book Fair to name just a few.
Olympia West has a strong tradition of academic excellence. Teachers and staff members are offered multiple professional development opportunities throughout the year. This focus on continued professional growth has resulted in outstanding student achievement in all the core areas. To supplement the core curriculum: math, language arts, science and social studies, students receive physical education instruction daily and music instruction weekly. In addition, students have a weekly scheduled library time with their class. There is also a computer lab and video conferencing technology available for instruction.
There are exciting things happening in Olympia and at West Elementary. On behalf of our students, staff and parents, I welcome you to Olympia.
