Superintendent Brad Hutchison Welcomes You To The Olympia District
On behalf of the Board of Education, Administration, staff, and students, I would like to welcome you to Olympia Community Unit School District #16 where our students are our first priority and our best assets, and excellence in education is a tradition. Our students’ test scores and graduation/attendance rates continue to improve and we are proud of the students.
The Olympia District represents eight communities in five different counties and encompasses 377 square miles. Approximately 2,000 students attend classes in three Pre-K through 5 elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. Olympia North Elementary (serving Danvers and Stanford) is located in Danvers; Olympia South Elementary (serving Atlanta, McLean, and Waynesville) is located in Atlanta; and Olympia West Elementary (serving Minier, Armington, and Hopedale) is located in Minier. Grades 6-12 students attend one campus located in rural McLean County near Stanford, Illinois.
Many building upgrades/renovations and the construction of a new facility have occurred during the past two years. Technology remains a key component of the instructional program and is integrated into the curriculum through a wide-area network that connects the five separate attendance centers. With over 1,000 computers, students have access to computers and technology throughout the district. The district currently offers Advanced Placement high school courses to allow high achieving students the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills.
The fine arts curriculum offers an array of student opportunities in Grades 6 – 12 and includes an award-winning high school marching band and a renowned high school choir that hosts an annual Madrigal production/dinner. Elementary students are provided music and physical education designed to help them receive a complete educational curriculum. A comprehensive chapter of the Future Farmers of America exists for students in Grades 9-12. This program offers students the opportunity to develop leadership and business skills as well as the latest farming techniques.
Students in Grades 6-12 are afforded the opportunity to participate in a host of extra-curricular activities designed to teach sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal determination. Numerous awards have been earned by both individuals and teams at the regional, sectional, and State levels.
Olympia is a member of the Corn Belt Athletic Conference and offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students to be successful in the 21st Century. The dedicated staff strives to ensure that all students meet or exceed the Illinois State Learning Standards and requirements of the “No Child Left Behind” mandate. The Board of Education, Administration, and teachers work together to ensure that the District’s Mission Statement is upheld: The Olympia Community inspires, educates, and challenges each student to achieve personal success.
It is my hope that you will enjoy the journey as you visit the Olympia School District.
