ACT Online Prep Available to Oly Students
ACT prep classes also available in the area
Students at Olympia High School have a wonderful opportunity to participate in the ACT Online Prep program at no cost to themselves. Olympia has obtained a license from ACT that will allow students to review, practice and access test taking strategies that will be extremely beneficial to them when they take the ACT. The ACT makes up the first of the two day, state-mandated PSAE that all juniors will take in April. In addition, students can take the ACT in February and June. This test serves as an integral part of college admissions decisions when students apply to college early in their senior year.
All Olympia Juniors will be given usernames and passwords that allow them to access the site anytime, anywhere. They will be instructed during their Advisory period on the use and benefits of this web site. Parents of juniors should ask their students to show them the web site and how it can be used. Any sophomores or freshmen that would like access to this web site should see Mrs. Butts in the Guidance Office. The URL of the site is www.actonlineprep.com.
In addition, there are ACT review classes available in this area. Heartland Community College offers several different evening classes.
The first Heartland ACT Review course begins on January 13th. Additional courses will begin on January 19, March 15, March 16 and May 18. In addition to these courses meeting at Heartland's Normal campus, classes are also scheduled at the Lincoln campus beginning on March 1 and 8, respectively.
The format for the six two-hour meetings of the Enhanced ACT Review Course includes pre- and post-test sessions, with individual sessions dedicated to math, English, reading and science. Students will review test content, practice test procedures, learn test-taking strategies, and discuss ways to reduce stress. The ACT Math Review and ACT Writing Prep classes are designed to complement the Enhanced ACT Review workshop by providing students with more intensive preparation for the writing exam and math section. Costs vary based on content areas. More information can be found at www.heartland.edu/communityEd
An independent test review company, Better Test Scores, will also be teaching courses throughout the area. The website for finding more information is www.bettertestscores.net. Dates and costs are listed on the website.
