OMS 6th Grade Partners with American Red Cross
On Tuesday, September 29 The American Red Cross of the Heartland
visited 6th graders at Olympia Middle School. This visit is a
benefit OMS receives due to its partnership with the McLean County
Compact’s Business/Education Program. Over the past few years, 6th
graders at OMS have been partnered up with a local business as part
of the program. This year the American Red Cross of the Heartland
is the Business Partner with the 6th grade from OMS.
On Tuesday Ms. Emily Barr from the Red Cross of the Heartland
presented a DVD to the 6th graders about the history and progress
of the mission, principles, and services of the American Red Cross.
Over the course of the next four weeks students will learn about
the four major services of the Red Cross; blood/biomedical,
disaster, health & safety, and service to the Armed Forces. The
Red Cross of the Heartland also is working to set up a babysitting
class at OMS. More information about this class will be provided
through the district-web-site and OMS announcements.
OMS 6th graders will participate in the Red Cross’ Operation Santa program. With the assistance and guidance of the American Red Cross of the Heartland, OMS 6th graders will be participating in the program. Students will first make stockings from a lightweight material. Students then will organize a drive to get the contents for the stockings. Students will finally make handmade cards for our soldiers that will be sent with the filled stockings. The goal at this point for this project is to have all stocking and cards mailed for the troops by November 11.
Olympia Middle School is proud to be a partner with the American Red Cross of the Heartland, and we look forward to assisting in the Operation Santa program that supports our military troops.
