OAC Holds First Meeting of 2010-11
The first meeting of the Olympia Advisory Council for 2010-11 was held on Monday, Oct 25, 2010 at 7 pm at the Unit Office.
Superintendent Hutchison led introductions and welcomed all in attendance, recognizing new members. Members reviewed the schedule for the year and the evening's agenda.
Superintendent Hutchison shared a Powerpoint comparing Olympia ISAT/PSAE scores with the state and with ourselves in years past. A new Fast Facts document was revealed with updated information and is a good resource to learn about the school district.Laura O'Donnell, Principal of Olympia South, gave a presentation of the 2010-11 School Improvement Plans. She explained the plans are a collaborative effort and goals are set based on data from the previous year. Also included in the plan are the steps to be used to attain the goals set.
Dr. Andrew Wise, Business and Operations Manager, reported progress of the new Special Education room addition at Olympia Middle School. Funds for the project are ARRA funds granted to the district.
OHS Teacher Matt Hurley addressed the group with an interesting presentation on the "Language!" program. This is a research based intervention used at the High School for students needing reinforcement in reading and writing skill sets. He shared a handout with a brief overview of the program and examples of student work and the impressive results of the "Language!" program experienced at the High School.
The next meeting of the Olympia Advisory Council will be January 4, 2011 at 7:00 pm.
