OHS Student Council Receives Teen Safe Driving Grant!
This year, the OHS Student Council has been working toward earning a Teen Safe Driving grant. Thanks to the hard working members, the OHS Student Council received the grant.
Student Council co-adviser Mr. Abrams is the project director for this event, and he gave all the credit to the students involved which include: Juniors Sarah Adams and Jessica Nichols, and seniors Meggi Logdson, and Shelby Batterton. Junior Ashley Litwiller is the student liaison. This was “totally student driven,” said Mr. Abrams.
The $2,000 grant will be used to promote Teen Safe Driving at the school. Students will encourage fellow students to drive more safely. The areas the committee chose to emphasize are reducing speeding and distracted driving. The program OHS designed is geared toward prom. Now committee members have to design and implement program that has to go toward two areas. Olympia is focusing on speeding and distracted driving. Students have to document their program. This documentation will be entered into a IDOT contest for a chance to win $2500 for a post prom event.
The Safe Driving program will run from December though February. Specific details will follow at a late date.
The grant is sponsored by: Ford Driving Skills for Life, AllState Foundation, and Illinois Department of Transportation.
