On December 14th, Mr. Nordstrom's Introduction to Agriculture Classes enjoyed listening to guest speaker, Scott Engstrom from Ameresco.  Ameresco is the wind energy company that is working with the Olympia School District on the feasibility of a wind turbine being placed on the Olympia Middle-High School Campus.  Mr. Engstrom also shared a presentation with the Olympia High School Science Club.  Engstrom said that data will be recorded through May and then a decision will be made on whether or not Olympia should proceed with their plans.

Currently, four other high schools in the state of Illinois have a wind turbine on their campus.  They are Bureau Valley, Erie, Sherrard, and PORTA.  Olympia is looking at leading the way using alternative energy.  The school district is already using a geothermal system and this wind turbine would provide the school with almost 90% of the electricity that it will need for the year.  Mr. Engstrom presented more information to the Olympia School Board Monday night as well.  The presentations were very informational for everyone involved and Olympia is looking forward to continuing this project with Ameresco.
