Senior captain Brady Schroeder signed a football scholarship to Truman State University on Wednesday, February 3rd at 10:00am.

Over Schroeder’s high school football career, he has been honored on the all-conference team 3 times, including a 1st team all-conference defensive back award and a 2nd team all-conference return specialist award his senior year. During his senior year, he also received 1st team all-area defensive back and made the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association academic all-state team.

Regarding the signing, Schroeder said, “It feels great! It is a huge relief getting the recruiting process out of the way. Now I can prepare myself for my upcoming season.” Schroeder also stated, “I really liked Truman and it was always towards the top of my list, but I knew 100% for sure after my official visit. I just fit in so well with the players and coaching staff.”

One of his goals for his college career is to win the MIAA, which is arguably the best conference in Division II, and compete for the National Championship. “The winner of the MIAA is usually one of the top contenders for the National Championship so I don’t feel that it is an unrealistic goal at all,” said Schroeder.

Olympia coach Matt Koeppel said, “I’m definitely proud. It goes without saying. He’s the 2nd highest recruited football player in the history of Olympia after Scott Green who went to Purdue University in 1991.” He also said, “It is exciting to see him going through this. Brady was a freshman my first year here, so I will always have a special bond with him and the rest of his teammates in his class. I feel like I’m his second dad sometimes.”

Olympia teacher and proud parent Connie Schroeder commented on her son’s signing, “I am just glad that he looked at the academic part of the school too and he is going where he wants to for school and for football. That only happens on rare occasions. His dad and I are very proud of him.”

Truman State University is a NCAA division 2 school located in Kirksville, MO. Their mascot is the bulldogs and colors are purple, black, and white.

Schroeder also holds the school 100m dash record with a 10.8 and has also been offered a Track and Field scholarship at Truman State, but still has yet to make the decision on whether or not he wants to compete in both sports.
