OHS Boys Swim Team Finishes Well at Pontiac Meet
The OHS boys swim team took down Peoria Christian on Thursday night in Pontiac. They beat them 120 to 21 and lost to Pontiac 136 to 120, but they still had a great meet and swam extremely well. They ended up finishing 1 to 1 in that meet.
“We are doing very well this year so far, but there is not the same success as there was last year. If we had two more swimmers, it might be a little bit better,” said Coach Hewitt on Friday after the meet.
There are a few goals that the swim team would like to accomplish before the season is over this year. They would like to have Matt Schmidt break the Freshman Sophomore diving record which is 205 points and last year’s senior swimmer Bryson Bristow holds that record at this point.
Sectionals are coming up on Saturday February 20th. Coach Hewitt thinks that the 200 medley relay has a good chance of medaling. The swimmers in that race are seniors Jordan Thompson, Brett Johnson, Dylan Phelps, and Zach Zindel. In this race, the top 6 teams will medal.
Coach Hewitt also said that Zach Zindel in the 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle, Brett Johnson in the 100 breast stroke, and Jordan Thompson in the 200 I.M. and 100 backstroke will be events that can score points at the sectionals meet.
“It’s been a good year. Being a senior I’ve had a lot of fun and I’m going to miss it,” said swimmer Dylan Phelps.
