Olympic Fever at Olympia South
Each grade level at Olympia South has been assigned a country to watch during the winter games in Vancouver, Canada. Posters have been created to visually display the number of gold, silver and bronze medals that have been won by the athletes of the countries being tracked. Classes also have the opportunity to earn a medal each day from their teacher for meeting academic goals and exhibiting positive character traits. The three classes (countries) with the highest medal count will be competing in our own version of the winter games on February 25, 2010.
Incorporating a discussion of the winter games into our classes gives the teachers opportunities to make connections with geography, history, health, nutrition and science concepts.
