Mr. Lootens Honored
The Illinois Athletic Directors Association named Olympia's Mike Lootens as Division Athletic Director of the Year for Class 1A and Class 2A. The annual banquet was held on May 1, 2010 at the Pere Marquette in Peoria, Illinois.
Mr. Lootens has served five years as Athletic Director following 27 years as a teacher and department head of Olympia High School’s social studies department. He works tirelessly to increase community support for the athletic programs, enhance the recognition of deserving athletes, and improve the service to coaches and their programs. Rarely does he take a night off from an athletic event, even when he is not officially assigned to cover the event.
In May of 2009, Mike was named the Class A Athletic Administrator of the Year by the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association.
The Olympia athletic programs have been quite successful in both the Corn Belt Conference and IHSA state competitions under his leadership. The Board, Administration, and Staff of Olympia CUSD 16 would like to congratulate Mr. Lootens on this distinguished award. Thank you, Mr. Lootens, for a job well done!
