Property Tax Stability: How will this happen? Approximately 35% of purchases in McLean County are made by people who do not live here. This means non-property owners and visitors will help fund local schools, easing the burden on property tax payers. This funding source provides additional revenue to schools to reduce the reliance on property taxes. In their second meet of the season, the OHS track teams competed yesterday in the Rantoul Indoor Invitational at Univ. of Illinois’ indoor track facility. The young boys’ team had many solid early-season performances, indicating that it’s going to be another exciting season to watch. Most of the athletes’ times and distances were well ahead of where they were last year at this point in the season. Season-best performances came from Kaleb Jacobs in the 60 m dash (7.77 sec), CJ Moore in the 800 m run (2:12.93), and all four runners in the 1600 m relay…….Kadyn Wilcox (55.5 sec), Kaleb Jacobs (55.7), CJ Moore (56.9), and TJ Gellner (56.7), with this group dropping nearly 4 seconds off of their time from two days previously. On the field events side, we had some promising season-debut performances in the triple jump. TJ Gellner jumped 36’ 2”, which was only 7” off of his best jump at the end of the season last year. Senior Chase Ragar(see attached picture), who was a state qualifier in that event last year and came within an inch of breaking the school record, earned the 6th place spot and started the year off with a leap of 40’ 6” (3 FEET FURTHER THAN HIS FIRST TIME JUMPING LAST YEAR). The boys’ track team will be back in action this coming Saturday at ISU’s Horton Fieldhouse.

The Normal West Lady Wildcats Invite on Wednesday evening was a great indoor season opener for the high school girls track team! We saw a lot of tough competition. Emma Swartzendruber was our only medaler placing 4th in the open 800 with a time of 2:29. It’s going to be a great season with all of these hard working athletes. Our next meet is with the boys this Saturday at U of I.

What’s Taxed and What’s Not Under the One-Cent Tax Proposal Did you know? The one-cent tax proposed for McLean County only applies to items that are currently subject to Illinois sales tax. Here’s what won’t be taxed: 🍞 Groceries / Unprepared Food 💊 Prescription medications 🚗 Vehicles (cars, trucks, boats, RVs, mobile homes) 🚜 Farm equipment, parts, and inputs 💈 Personal/professional services (haircuts, accounting, legal services, etc.) 📊 Wholesale purchases What will be taxed? Only items that are currently taxed under Illinois law. For example: 🍜 Prepared foods 📺 Retail purchases (clothing, electronics, etc.) 📦 Online sales If approved, this tax will help fund critical improvements for our schools while minimizing impact on essential purchases. Learn more about how these funds would impact our school community by attending our community information meeting on March 10th @ 5:00 p.m. in the Media Center at Olympia High School, visiting our webpage www.april1cent.info or contacting us directly.

Did you know? When you shop in other counties, you may already be contributing to their local schools. Many neighboring counties, including Sangamon, Peoria, Champaign, Logan and Macon, already have the one-cent tax. Now, McLean County voters will determine if the tax is approved for local schools. If approved, the proposed One-Cent Tax will provide funding for safety upgrades, facility improvements, and property tax stabilization. Learn more about the sales tax by attending our community information meeting on March 10th @ 5:00 p.m., visiting our webpage www.april1cent.info or contacting us directly #april1cent
