OHS science students are investigating the case of a girl who became very sick after contracting antibiotic resistant bacteria. Redesigned to simulate a mystery, this classroom was transformed with decor and music to engage these scientists as they solve the case.

Understand how tech companies make money.
Along with your tween and teen, research how digital devices, social media platforms, and apps and games get paid. Do they sell ads? Do they sell kids' data?


Help kids identify healthy behaviors.
Ask kids to notice their feelings, both physical and emotional, during screen and non-screen activities. Does their heart rate increase when their phone vibrates? Encourage kids to keep the constructive activities and let go of the rest.

Model the behavior you want to see.
Tweens and teens learn more from watching adult behavior than listening to lectures. Consider how you use your devices and other media, and make changes if your use doesn't follow your expectations for your kids.


Explore built-in digital well-being tools.
Together with your kids, check out the features on their devices and in their apps that can help them use tech more intentionally.

There will be a Toys for Tots donation drive at the Nov. 21 girls basketball game and the Nov. 29 boys basketball game. Earn free admission to the game by donating a new, unwrapped toy at the entrance table of the game. Monetary donations for Toys for Tots will also be accepted during the game.



Congratulations to Blaine Halley on being selected 1st team Illinois High School Football Coaches Association All State. This award is voted upon by coaches across the state and is one of the greatest honors any high school football player in the state can receive!


NHS won the 2022 YICU team award for its outstanding commitment to community and service in McLean County on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022. NHS officers were present at the ceremony to receive the award. An Independent Selection Committee gave NHS with this honor due to the “depth and breadth of your commitment to servant leadership and philanthropy.” The YICU event was founded on three key goals: Celebrate youth leadership and volunteer service in McLean County. Inspire other young people and Raise funds for local nonprofits in the community. YICU gave NHS a check for $250 which will be donated to the Olympia Promise Council.

Create screen-free times and zones.
Help tweens and teens take breaks from tech by limiting screen time in bedrooms, during study time, or at the dinner table. Consider carving out regular family time when screens are either put away or enjoyed together.


Congratulations to the OHS National Honor Society on being recognized and selected as a Why I See You (YICU) Service Award winner! For A Better Tomorrow is a non-profit organization that recognizes youth leadership and serve to the communities of McLean County.

National Honor Society is running an Olympia High School and Middle School winter coat, hat and mitten drive. Most needed are children's sizes small and medium. All items will be distributed within the community. Drop boxes are located outside the high school and middle school main offices. Deadline is Dec. 9.

Olymia parent and Army National Guard Veteran, Mr. Marc White, was the special guest speaker today at the OHMS Veterans Day assembly. His message focused on connecting the military’s core values with Olympia’s core values, emphasizing the importance of respect, responsibility, and relationships. Several Olympia students shared excerpts stressing the importance of honoring our Veterans. The OHMS choir and band performed the Armed Forces Medley-Pride of America as we recognized the various branches of the military. Over 40 local Veterans attended the assembly including World War II Veteran Mr. Ben Maurer. Thank you to all Veterans for your sacrifices and service.
