The Olympia North Student Council prepared for the Veterans Day celebration by meeting with Hiriam Brownell and learning about his experiences in the Navy. Mr. Brownell served in the U.S. Navy from 1964-1969. He volunteered for sub duty and was on a nuclear SSBN and also a WWII sub. He was home ported out of Charleston and patrolled in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean. Mr. Brownell also helped the student council members learn the correct way to fold a flag. They used this knowledge to perform a flag folding ceremony at our school Veterans Day assembly. Student Council would like to thank Mr. Brownell for taking the time to teach us these valuable lessons.

Encouraging students to take their fruits and vegetables can be a challenge on the elementary level. It is our goal in all the elementary cafeterias that the students will try new foods and learn to love them. Some fun in lunch can go a long way to help promote the fruits and vegetables we have available for the students to choose from. At North our Watermelon Man did just that.
