Law Enforcement Torch Run

On Thursday June 16th the Law Enforcement Torch Run will be taking place from Sangamon County through Logan County for the summer games for Illinois Special Olympics athletes.   Eventually the torch will make it's way to Bloomington by Friday June 17th for the opening ceremonies for the summer Special Olympics games.  The Olympia School District has been asked to see if any members of our communities might be interested in assisting with this relay, either as a runner or as a supporter along the run route cheering on the officers, students, and community members that are participating in the Torch Run.

Specifically, we have been asked to see if any members of the Olympia Community would be interested in helping on two legs of the run: from North Lincoln City Limits “Graue” to Lawndale and then from Lawndale to Atlanta.  The first leg is 4.6 miles and they are estimating that it will take place between 2:50 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.  The second leg is 4.5 miles and the estimate is that it will take place between 3:45 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

This run is open to all members of the Olympia community.  The organizers just ask that everybody wear a Torch Run shirt if possible.  The 2022 shirts are $20 a piece and can be purchased by contacting Brittany Ott at 217-314-9386.  You can also email Brittany at littlemsb@msn.com to indicate your interest in purchasing a shirt.  Brittany also has prior year’s shirts that she is willing to give to participants, but supplies are limited and they are available on a first come, first served basis.

If you are interested in helping out with the Torch Run, please contact Brittany Ott directly at the numbers listed above.  We hope that members of our community are able to come out and help with this event.
