Firsties at South began last week reading “Bat Loves the Night” by author, Nicola Davies. This book led the students on a mission to learn about why a bat is not a bird, different types of bats, parts of a bat and more! The week finished with the first official BAT DAY!! Students spent the day in a bat cave with lights off, flashlights, glow sticks, and even a bat roost. Students worked on art, informative writing, comparing bats and birds, and a whole grade level activity to understand echolocation. The kids had a blast and were able to share what they had learned all week!
