What is the Foundation?
The Foundation is a not-for profit corporate, organized under the laws of the State of Illinois which provides long-term, self-sustaining financial structure to enhance the educational programs of Olympia Community Unit School District. #16.

What is the mission?
The mission is to acquire and distribute resources which enhance and enrich educational opportunities for Olympia Students.

What is the relationship between the Foundation and the school district?
The Foundation is a separate, legal entity and not part of the school district. There is ongoing communicating and cooperation between them.


What kinds of programs may be funded?
The Foundation is committed to attracting and distributing funds to Olympia Community Unit School District #16 for the development of enrichment programs and services. All age levels and curricular areas are considered. Your gifts help support the following areas:

  • Programs for students including after-school and summer opportunities in science, writing, art and vocational areas;

  • Activities for parents and students on specific topics with recognized speakers and resources;

  • Seminars, workshops and opportunities for staff which enhance the art of creative teaching and the development of instructional strategies and technologies.

  • Artist-in-residence programs including authors, performers, artists, scientists, technologists, and craftsmen;

  • Development of programs and activities promoting studies which create an awareness and concern for environmental and social issues;

  • Development of programs and activities aimed at fostering understanding and sharing of multi-cultural experiences; and

  • Activities which promote student and community relationships.

What is the Foundation’s goal?
The goal is to establish an endowment which will be self-sustaining. Its immediate goal is $300,000.

Who makes decisions about what programs are funded?
Decisions will be made by the Foundation Board of Directors. Both the school district and Board of Education are represented on the Foundation Board.

Who administers the Foundation funds?
The Board of Directors of the Foundation is responsible for the financial management of the Foundation’s funds. The Foundation is an IRS 502(c)(3) tax exempts corporation organized under the laws of the State of Illinois.

Does the Foundation have a financial policy to guides its spending?
Yes. The general long-term policy is to fund programs from investment earnings.

Are contributions tax-deductible?
Yes.

How can I help?
As a teacher in the Olympia district, you can apply for grant money from the Foundation. Applications can be submitted at any time and are awarded in November each year.

Any individual can also make a direct contribution or pledge to the Foundation.
