Thank you Oly South PTO for showing our teachers the love today!

Just like you'd ask your kid about their sleep, exercise, and eating, stay on top of their online life. Who are they chatting with? How do people treat each other in the games and on the sites they're using?

As kids grow, they'll naturally start to communicate more online, but some of what they see could make them feel hurt, sad, angry, or even fearful. Help your students build empathy for others and learn strategies to use when confronted with cyberbullying.

Thank you to the Atlanta Fire Department for spending the day teaching students about fire safety. Two teachers raced a fireman to get into gear and 15 students were selected out of the blue to spray the fire hose! We appreciate the partnership with these brave community leaders!

Video: bit.ly/OlyCBV1 Let's face it: Some online spaces can be full of negative, rude, or downright mean behavior. But what counts as cyberbullying? Help your kids learn what is - and what isn't - cyberbullying, and give them the tools they'll need to combat the problem.

SAVE THE DATE: The OHS National Honor Society is hosting their annual Halloween Fest on October 27th from 1-3 PM. $5 wristband at entrance - all proceeds will benefit Toys for Tots.

Make sure kids understand what cyberbullying is: repeated and unwanted mean or hurtful words or behavior that occur online (through texts, social media posts, online chat, etc.).

On Saturday, September 28th one of our students Mary L and her mom, Heather, planned a Literacy Safari event at our three local libraries. This provided our students an opportunity to celebrate the fun of reading! At the end of the event, Mary read a book that she had wrote in costume. She plans to give the book she wrote to each of our libraries. The proceeds from the event were donated to OSE. Thanks so much for supporting our students and our school!

This morning OSE celebrated our first Super Spartans of the year. These kids are gifted in the art of Self Reflection. Great job Spartans! Keep up the good work!

Once kids go online, their chances of finding cyberbullies, haters, and trolls is, sadly, quite high. Find age-specific guidelines, videos, and articles to help with tough conversations -- whether your kid is a bully or is being bullied. Explore answers to all your cyberbullying questions, age-appropriate advice, school resources, and more from parents and experts. https://www.commonsensemedia.org/cyberbullying

It's year five of our dedicated Digital Citizenship outreach! Starting today we begin our annual focus on the six core areas of digital citizenship; providing resources and support for our Oly families. More details can be found here: bit.ly/OlyDigCitOverview

On Friday, third graders listened to "Rosie Revere, Engineer" by Andrea Beaty. Then they created their own treasures. There were some very creative ideas!

A group of Oly South students were selected for an 'Out of the Blue' trip to the playground this afternoon as part of the PBIS program. Student names were drawn from the school bin of blue tickets that are earned through being spotted meeting expectations at school! Great job!

Congratulations to Dewberry Architects on their design award for the Olympia South addition / renovation project. We are thrilled with the space and are maximizing it every single day! Please click on the image below to see the article and a few photos of the renovated and new spaces.

Third graders showing off their Spartan Spirit! 🩵🤍

We read the book, Alma and the Worry Stone, and then created our own worry stones to use this year whenever we need to work through those worries and feel more confident! Even adults, like Mrs. Rogers, need worry stones. Every stone is unique, just like all of our second graders!🥰

It was a big day for the third graders as they got to use chromebooks for the first time!

Third graders at South learned about being good mathematicians by "Saving Fred" today. 🙂

The Olympia Administrative Team is ready to go! Planning on an amazing year.

Any South family is welcomed to check out the mobile food truck in Waynesville this Saturday @ 11:00 am at the Christian Church. Also, the Atlanta pantry located at the Christian Church is open 9-11 every Saturday.
