To go along with the Challenge Learning work today at Institute, OMS teachers participated in a Learning Pit themed scavenger hunt. Congratulations to math teacher Kelsey Holt for being the winner! #EasyIsBoring #ChallengeIsInteresting
In a breakout performance this Saturday, the OMS boys ended up taking home a trophy at the 2021 Spartan Spectacular! Athletes JT Piper (6th place, 12:04) and CJ Moore (10th, 12:15) led the pack, with Hollis Scheets (13:00), Clayton Piper (13:08), Tucker Garey (13:39), Kaleb Jacobs (13:54), and Evan Petri (14:02) rounding out the top 7.
On the girl’s side, Olympia placed 7th. Mira Kistner led with a personal best time of 14:38. She was followed closely by Kamryn Rader (14:47) and Adriana Jenkins (14:48). Athletes Jersey Holloway (15:05), Nina Salvator (15:21), Natalie Collins (15:54), and Abigail Hoeft (16:44) also boasted impressive performances.
A special thanks to all the parents, high school athletes, and staff who donated to or volunteered for our home meet. It was the fabulous Olympia community that made this happen! GO SPARTANS!

Congratulations to the OHS Life Skills class for being selected as a 2021 YICU Youth Advocate Award winner! Students and staff conduct food drives throughout the year and collaborate with Helping Hands Community Center to collect supplies to fill the shelves. Thank you for all you do for the Olympia community!
Congratulations to the Olympia student and staff nominations for 2021 YICU Service Awards. Grace Castleman, Erin Dederich, and the Olympia Life Skills Class were representing Olympia High School. Students and staff were recognized during the Youth Leadership and Service in McLean County Award Ceremony.
Congratulations to the OMS boys on a phenomenal showing this past Saturday at Mahomet-Seymour. JT Piper lead the varsity with a personal best of 12:06. He was followed by Hollis Scheets (12:55), Clayton Piper (13:06), Kaleb Jacobs (13:16), Tucker Garey (13:28), Evan Petri (13:53), and Owen Knuffman (14:21).
There was lots of success on the JV side too! Callan Clark (15:11), Hunter Fahsbender (15:44), Jacob Haines (18:49), Colton Hemphill (20:07), Wesley Hemphill (16:46), Jaymin Knox (15:39), Colby Maness (16:04), Wyatt Prince (18:12), and Reece Yero (16:06) all had season best performances. Nice job Spartans! The future looks bright!
Congratulations to our JV boys golf this past week for placing tied for 3rd at the Blue Ridge JV Invite! Also Congratulations to Davis Rogers for placing 8th overall with a score of 47 and congratulations to Ethan Evans for placing 4th with a score of 45! Good job you guys!!
The OHS cross country team competed at the 40th Annual Richard Spring Invitational at Detweiller Park yesterday. There were approximately 2500 runners spread out in 6 different races. In the FS girls race, Rachel Andris(20:51) and Amelia Kistner(23:53) both had season best times. In the varsity girls race, Abby Litwiller (19:51), Anna Bieber(20:07), Crystal Cornwell (20:26), and Madison Bales(21:39) all had season best times. In the FS boys race, Landon Smith(21:57) had a season best. Logan Farquhar(22:16) and Anthony Ragland (16:44) had season bests in the varsity guys race while senior Carter Phillips ran an all-time best 16:06.

Students in Mr. Hendricks and Ms. Decker’s American Studies class are wrapping up a unit on the “American Dream”. Students learned to analyze various documents starting with our nation's birth through the settlement of the U.S. Plains. Using photographs taken in the late 1860’s, students worked together to walk through a “photo gallery” by Solomon Butcher to evaluate his reliability and the impact of the Homestead Act. Next, the students will explain the American Dream in regards to expansion and ambition over the course of our Nation’s history.

The Olympia boys and girls cross country teams had a great couple meets. On Saturday in Normal, the varsity boys all ran seasons bests. JT Piper led Olympia with a time of 12:49, followed by Hollis Scheets (13:06), CJ Moore (13:09), Kaleb Jacobs (13:56), Clayton Piper (14:04), Evan Petri (14:19), and Tuckery Garey (14:19). This ranks the boys 5th of 16 conference teams.
The girls team was led by Mira Kister (15:36), followed by Kamryn Raider (15:38), Nina Salvator (16:08), Abby Hoeft (16:45), Jersey Holloway (16:57), Zoey Bowman (16:58), Adraian Jenkins (17:58), and Natalie Collins (17:58).
On Monday’s meet in El Paso both the boys and girls placed 6th, with many athletes taking home hardware for their awesome performances! Medal winners included:
TJ Piper, Hollis Scheets, Ethan LaBelle, Owen Knuffman, Callan Clark, Colby Maness, Jaymin Knox, Wyatt Prince, Mira Kistner, Kamryn Raider, Adriana Jenkins, and Ava Jenkins
For most improved athlete, a special shout-out to Kennedi Craig. She took almost 3 minutes off her time to finish her race in 22:56. Great job Spartans!
